Melrose to Lindisfarne
A 100km (62.5 mile) long distance walking route across the Scottish
Borders to the Northumberland Coast. This is generally divided into four
separate day walks, and for this guide the walk can be described from either
Melrose to Lindisfarne, or Lindisfarne to Melrose. The most popular
route tracks the chronological sequence
of the Saint from his earlier association with Melrose to his later
life on the Holy Isle.
"The St Cuthbert's Way route has been developed as a partnership between the Scottish BorderWalks Project and Till Valley Tourism Initiative. Scottish BorderWalks is supported by Scottish Borders Enterprise, Scottish Natural Heritage, Scottish Borders Council and the Scottish Borders Tourist Board. Till Valley Tourism Initiative is supported by Northumberland County Council, Northumberland National Park, Northumbria Tourist Board, the Rural Development Commission and Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Council. The support of all these organisations is gratefully acknowledged in terms of the route development". Recognising that not all walkers wish to undertake the route on just four days, it is also quite commonly divided into 5 days of around 12.5 miles, this providing stopping points at Maxton, Cessford, Hethpool and East Horton. |

We cannot commit to always being able to respond but we will take all suggestions seriously.
Since Easter 2003 there has been a route change on the section between
Harestanes and Morebattle (day two as defined on this website).
This is seen as a significant enhancement to the original route and removes a diversionary routing that was in place for over a year.
